Snipe seeking, Day 2
Today, Matt, Will, and I set out to do more snipe surveys. On our 6th survey (we did 7 today), Will spotted two snipe that were flushed by a male northern harrier. He ID'ed them at over 200m by the stripes on their backs. They quickly landed again and were out of sight, and Will never would have seen them if it wasn't for the harrier. Most of what we saw today were canada, greater white-fronted, and snow geese, in addition to white-crowned, white-throated, and savannah sparrows, and tons of cardinals, robins, blackbirds, and meadowlarks. We also saw horned larks and flickers foraging in farm fields. Hopefully we will start seeing more snipe soon, but in the meantime, we will continue to survey habitat.
