American Coot Chicks, Market Lake WMA

Two weeks ago at Market Lake WMA, west of Rexburg Idaho, we came across a few different famlies of American Coots.  Coot babies are pretty bizarre-looking, which makes them fun to photograph.

Here is a quick/poor video of a coot feeding its baby.  You can see that the chick uncontrollably flaps its little wings with happiness as it is fed, as most unattractive babies birds do.

  1. Great Pics Anna.....I always like to see pics of moms and their kids! Reminds me of us when you were little!!! You were a little cuttie pie, and the little coots are cute in their own way....they have a face only their mother could love!! Love you and miss you MOM
