WISN Surveys near Shrevesport, LA

On February 23rd (my birthday) we headed for Shreveport, Louisiana to finish up our surveys for Wilson's snipe in Louisiana.  The habitat of our towship was mostly wooded, and not good habitat for snipe.  The pine plantations, though, were perfect habitat for a number of new species, including orange-crowned and pine warblers.  It was also a great day for raptors, including red-shouldered hawk, coopers hawk, and red-tailed hawk, all on more than one occasion.

The first pine warbler was jumping around a driveway, while another was found on the ground in a park with an orange-crowned warbler.  Both species winter in this area.
